Stories that Inspire- Stephanie's Story

Stephanie’s story is a powerful testament to the profound ways hearing loss can shape lives, whether you personally experience it or witness it in someone you love. Stephanie's grandmother, Patricia, was diagnosed with Presbycusis, which resulted in moderately severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. Conversations that were once easy for Patricia became increasingly difficult, and she began to withdraw from family gatherings. Seeing her struggle deeply impacted Stephaine and motivated her to pursue a career in healthcare, specifically focusing on providing care for those with hearing loss.
Stephanie joined the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) at Iona University, where she majored in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. From the moment she joined, the Chapter president encouraged her to get involved in Walk4Hearing. Eager to contribute to a cause that resonated deeply with her, Stephaine participated in the New York City Walk4Hearing and became the top fundraiser in her first year as a Walker!

Seeing the positive impact hearing care has had on my grandmother drives my commitment to Walk4Hearing. By participating, I feel proud to raise awareness and support for individuals with hearing loss.

Since that first Walk, Stephanie’s commitment to the hearing loss community has only grown stronger. She became the team captain of the Towson NSSLHA Au.D. team, leading them in the Washington DC Walk4Hearing in 2024. Her team raised nearly $10,000, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects Stephanie’s dedication to making a difference.
Through her personal connection, Stephanie has come to understand the profound impact hearing loss can have on a person’s life, not just physically, but emotionally and socially. Stephanie continues to help others to ensure that others facing similar challenges find support, connection, and hope.
