We are raising funds for the fourth time in the upcoming Walk4Hearing in Chicago to support Ellie and other children with hearing loss on October 1st!
This year, Ellie's hearing loss has progressed to profound. Currently, we are scheduled for her to get implanted on her right side on July 17th with her left side soon to follow. It is evident that her speech is not where it should be and is currently at the level of an 18-24 month old. Ellie is 3.5 years old.
As of today, Ellie hears at about 95 decibel with her Right ear and 65 db with her Left. A whisper is about 30 decibels, normal conversation is about 60 dB, and a motorcycle engine running is about 95db. After her CI is activated, she will be in the normal range of hearing at 25 db!
With an extremely heavy focus on speech therapy , Ellie will be eventually mainstreamed, will have accessibility to learning and loving life like a 3 year old little girl should with typical hearing!
