Lurie Children’s is Illinois’ largest provider of audiology services to diagnose and manage pediatric hearing loss.
Our state-of-the-art behavioral test methods and auditory brainstem response (ABR) program are available to provide primary diagnoses and second opinions. We specialize in newborn hearing screening, behavioral hearing evaluations and fitting of amplification for infants and children. We dispense hearing aids to children funded by Illinois Early Intervention. Our loaner hearing aid bank allows us to fit children rapidly and keep them hearing when repairs are needed.
Over 1,900 implantations have been done at Lurie Children's. Evaluation and implantation of infants and toddlers is our specialty. Our surgeons have expertise in preservation of a child’s natural hearing. Our implant team’s pediatric audiologists have experience programming all types of cochlear implant systems, including new electro-acoustic models. Our 22 member multidisciplinary cochlear implant team serves children with sensorineural hearing loss and auditory neuropathy, including many with unusual ear anatomy, additional disabilities and complex medical histories. Our social workers and educator who support families, understand the special needs of children with hearing loss. Our goal is to help each child reach their unique potential.
