Did you know that one in seven Americans are living with some degree of hearing loss? Hearing is an important part of overall health and the Walk4Hearing calls on all of us to take action. By being active, engaged, and making hearing health a priority, people with hearing loss can live well. Let’s Hear Now and Be Well Together.
It all starts right here in my own community with generous people like you, who are willing to step up and support me. Here is a little about me.
My name is Maria. I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and a proud deaf woman. I lost my hearing in 2016 two months before my 42nd birthday. To say that the air was literally punched out of me is an understatement. I had to grieve what others take for granted. After the initial shock, I started to have panic attacks when around crowds of people because of my hearing loss. Then I decided that I needed to do research and that is how I found my deaf community. I was determined to learn sign language and even though I may not be entirely fluent in it I can hold conversations. It has always been a beautiful language to me and now it is part of me. Join my cause of bringing awareness to hearing loss and discrimination of those with hearing loss by donating to my cause or by joining my team and walking with us on October 10th 2021 at Mercer County Park West Picnic Area on Paxson Ave in West Windsor, NJ.
Can I count on you? Here is little info on Walk4Hearing:
The Walk4Hearing is the only nationwide event bringing attention to hearing loss and promoting the importance of hearing health. Funds raised support HLAA’s national awareness and education programs, HLAA Chapters and State Associations, and alliance organizations that help extend HLAA’s mission into local communities.
