I'm empowering people with hearing loss!
It is important to me that everyone understand just why I feel the need to participate each year in the Walk for Hearing. As an adult with severe hearing loss, the local Hartford chapter of HLAA, Hear Here Hartford, has provided me with an opportunity to learn about self-advocating and to work with teens who have hearing loss and empower them as they navigate their education, their work, and their social lives. HLAA is bringing attention to hearing loss as a growing public health crisis affecting one in seven Americans and an often-ignored part of overall health and wellness.
As a walker for the 13th year in a row, I've joined with HLAA Chapters, hearing care professionals, and nonprofit and business partners committed to helping every person with hearing loss thrive. Our team of family and friends with join with other HLAA Chapters and nonprofit business partners to raise funds for local programs, including educational programs and scholarships, hearing health and medical care. If you can join us, come on down to Dunkin Park on June 3rd from 9-12 and walk with us! If you can't join us, please consider making a donation.
