Bailey Henninger was born in June of 2020. During her stay in the hospital after birth, her parents, Brian & Sarah, were informed that she had failed her newborn hearing screening. Upon this news, they were recommended to take Bailey to CHOP Chalfont and have an ABR test performed to validate these results. With 2 ABR tests coming back showing a hearing loss in her right ear, Bailey was diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss. After these results, they were recommended to take Bailey to see an ENT at CHOP Chalfont. The ENT recommended sending Bailey for an MRI to see if there was a cause for the hearing loss. Bailey was diagnosed with Enlarged Vestibular Aqueducts (EVA) in both of her ears. With this diagnosis, it was recommended for Bailey to get a hearing aid for her right ear. In addition to the hearing aid, Brian & Sarah started meeting with a Teacher of the Deaf to learn ASL. Now a year after the journey has begun, Bailey actively knows and uses quite a few signs and is progressing with her speech as well. Due to the EVA diagnosis in both ears, Bailey’s hearing is being closely monitored by her awesome audiologist!
The Walk4Hearing is the only nationwide event bringing attention to hearing loss and promoting the importance of hearing health. Funds raised support HLAA’s national awareness and education programs, HLAA Chapters and State Associations, and alliance organizations that help extend HLAA’s mission into local communities.
The Walk4Hearing is about sharing an experience, learning from each other, making memories, and taking the first step toward better hearing health. Participating in the Walk means joining thousands of people across the country and right in our neighborhoods who understand what it’s like to live with hearing loss.
Did you know that one in seven Americans are living with some degree of hearing loss? Hearing is an important part of overall health and the Walk4Hearing calls on all of us to take action. By being active, engaged, and making hearing health a priority, people with hearing loss can live well. Let’s Hear Now and Be Well Together.
It all starts right here in my own community with generous people like you, who are willing to step up and support me, my family, and Bailey.
